This is our “flagship” package - 4 days of amazing walks and climbs on mountain routes in the Sudetes and Tatra Mountains. We have selected, in our opinion, one of the bests places in Poland to go mountain hiking and climbing. First the Sudetes – with their open spaces, wide and long valleys and picturesque, mountain pine covered slopes. Then the Tatras - soaring, majestic and sometimes imposing. Both mountains have different characters and apperance but they have one thing in common: they provide the best of impressions with magnificient views and leave you “pleasantly tired” – that exceptional feeling – familiar to all mountain lovers and hikers. This package shows the diversity and charm of Polish mountains and includes graded trips:

  • walks in Rudawy Janowickie Scenic Park (lower part of Sudetes) where the routes wind through forests, between hills and rock formations. The resting place is situated by the ruins of a medieval castle and the dinner at the end of the ramble at an eighteenth century palace (optional);

Sudetes Mountains is a land of hundreds of kilometers of dedicated, picturesque bicycle routes on both the Polish and Czech sides.

We would like to offer you bicycle trips in high mountains where the trails lead through wild nooks and open spaces from where you can see fantastic panoramic views of the mountains. We offer rides in Rudawski Scenic Park where the paths wind through forests and between hills, granite rocks.

  • The most recent addition to our programmes are rides on SINGLTREKs.
  • SINGLTREKs are narrow mountain layered paths, merged with the landscape, which lead through forests – nature friendly. A SINGLTREK runs along the side of a hill with a small incline. It winds among trees – never goes straight for too long, never goes up or down for too long. It is nicely adapted to the forest scenery and allows you to enjoy cycling and being in the bosom of nature.
  • The person behind designing them is Daffydd Davis, an internationally well known creator of mountain bike trails. Trails like that are built bearing in mind minimal interference with the surrounding nature and maximum enjoyment of off-road biking.
  • The first route like this, in this part of Europe, is the biking circuit SINGLTREK by the SMRK, which is included in our offer.

IDEA
We came up with the idea for this programme when we put together a few facts:

  • we live in beautiful Sudetes’ Mountains, which we know inside out
  • we love music
  • our friends are the owners of a beautiful, cosy hotel and a high end, professional recording studio
  • Wroclaw, a town around 2 hours drive from where we are, is a scene for many international and local concerts and musical venues. The music varies from jazz, chamber music, classical music, folk to rock and avant-garde.

This all creates a fantastic combination of beautiful places and beautiful music. The programme Mountains & Music stems from this combination. Experiencing music, being in touch with nature and mountains, enjoying fabulous views and places. Creating music, playing or listening. Learning about the music during workshops. And relaxing in the park by the hotel during breaks or perhaps a quick trip to the mountains. Or maybe a visit to one of the music festivals.

We can offer to organize all of it for you: professional musicians, artists and lecturers, students of the Academy of Music, music enthusiasts or just people who like music and beautiful, interesting places.

PLACES
Mountains: Sudetes are a superb place for enjoying mountain cycling, trekking and hiking in the mountains. The trails lead through some of the most interesting places on both the Polish and Czech sides. It is not crowded here, hence one can admire the scenery in peace and enjoy fresh and clean air. We organize trips which show the diversity and charm of the Sudetes:

  • hikes in higher parts of the mountains with dominant open spaces and beautiful panoramic views of the Polish and Czech sides, walking on pristine trails and exploring wild spots in the mountains;
  • trekking in Rudawy Janowickie Scenic Park where the routes wind through forests, between hills and rock formations and the resting place is situated by the ruins of a medieval castle;

Tatras occupy an area of 750 km², of which the greater part (600 km²) lies in Slovakia, with the highest peak Gerlach at 2,655 m, located north of Poprad. In turn, summit Rysy (2,499 m), located in the north-western part of Tatras, is the highest mountain in Poland.

The Tatras are a mountain range of a corrugated nature, originating from the Alpine orogeny, and therefore characterized by a relatively young-look lay of the land, quite similar to the landscape of the Alps. It is the highest mountain range within Carpathians, possessing the internal mountain chains of: Western Tatras (Slovak: Západné Tatry, Polish: Tatry Zachodnie), and Eastern Tatras (Východné Tatry, Tatry Wschodnie), which consist of: High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry, Tatry Wysokie) and Belianske Tatras (Belianske Tatry, Tatry Bielskie). The overall nature of the Tatras, together with their easy accessibility, makes them a favorite with tourists and researchers. Therefore, these mountains are a popular winter sports area. The High Tatras, with their 24 (or 25) peaks exceeding 2,500 m above sea level, together with the Southern Carpathians, represent the only form of alpine landscape in the entire 1200 km length of arc of the Carpathians.

The Tatras lie in the temperate zone of Central Europe. They are an important barrier to the movements of air masses. Their mountainous topography causes one of the most diverse climates in that region.

The Mountains have a diverse variety of plant life. They are home to more than 1,000 species of vascular plants, about 450 mosses, 200 liverworts, 700 lichens, 900 fungi, and 70 slime moulds. There are five climatic-vegetation belts in the Tatras.

The distribution of plants depends on altitude:

  • up to 1,300 m: Carpathian beech forest; almost no shrub layer, herb layer occupies most of the forest floor;
  • to 1,550 m: Spruce forest; shrub layer poorly developed, mosses are a major component;
  • to 1,800 m: Mountain Pine, numerous herbs;
  • to 2,300 m: high altitude grasslands;
  • from 2,300 m up: Subnivean - bare rock and almost no vegetation (mostly lichens).

Climate and weather
Poland has a variable climate, which of late has become less predictable. Spring and autumn are pleasantly warm – this is a good time to travel. In summer, temperatures can soar, sometimes reaching around 30 degrees centigrade, particularly in July. Winters can be cold and sometimes harsh (can reach even 20 degrees centigrade below zero), so you need to wrap up well; the skiing season starts in late November and lasts until March. Note that in Mountains weather can change suddenly so be prepared.

Money
Whilst in Poland, you will need to budget for spending money to pay for drinks, souvenirs and other incidental costs. Prices in Poland are generally lower than in Western Europe but in some hotels and restaurants they can be similar. Whilst it is difficult to provide an exact figure for your daily expenditure, you should allow around £20/€25 a day. Here are some examples:

  • O,7l Heineken Beer at grocery: £1,2/€1,4
  • 0,5l Carlsberg Beer in local pub: £1,4/€1,2
  • 0,5l Polish Tyskie Beer at grocery: £0,5/€0,7
  • 0,7l bottle of not bed wine: £4,4/€4,5
  • 1,5l bottle of mineral water: £0,5/€0,7
  • Loaf of bred: £0,4/€0,45

The currency in Poland is the Zloty. You can purchase these with Sterling, although the Euro is perhaps more widely recognized. Polish currency can be obtained in most towns and ATMs are common. Also many cash exchange points are available. There is no problem using your credit cards in Poland, but Travellers Cheques can be difficult to cash at times.

Electricity
In Poland the electricity supply is 220 volts; plugs are two-pin, and of the type found in most European countries.

Local time
Poland is on Central European Time; one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time
